The story of Homer Whales:
Homer Whales are unique soft-form toys individually hand made by Abigail Kokai in Homer, Alaska. In the summer of 2015, Abigail had dreamed of making a “Wishing Whale” for the Homer Spit, after watching whales around Kachemak Bay. Then a good friend gave her some denim jeans to repurpose. She drafted up some patterns in a range of sizes and started making denim whale toys and HomerWhales was born. Additional fabrics include remnants from Nomar, a prominent marine fabrics retail and manufacturing business located on Pioneer Ave. in Homer, and patchwork pieces assembled from quilting fabrics, as Abigail is also an avid quilter. Each whale is unique, and she spends a lot of time selecting fabric combinations for each whale. The fin whale is her favorite, although she has also developed a super-rad orca pattern that she is really excited about. They are fun for all ages and intended for use as toys or home deécor pillows.
Welcome to Homer!
HomerWhales is based in Homer, Alaska. Homer is famously known as "The End of the Road", as it is the furthest destination one can arrive by road in the West of the United States. Homer is also well known for its unique "Spit", a permanent sandbar formation extending 5 miles into Kachemak Bay. However, where the road ends for some, the ocean begins for the cute and adorable Homer Whales!
